Filming Continuity Piece

Filming opening sequence

Getting started with the filming of an opening sequence seemed much simpler in theory than it did in practice. There were several factors we had to consider when filming within a school environment - student disturbance, noise and location restrictions.

Firstly, we established which piece of equipment we were going to use, we decided on the Fig Rig as it provided the most fluidity with movement whilst filming. We had some trouble assembling it to secure the camera and Mr McManus had to show us how to. I learnt that keeping a coin in my pocket at all times whilst using the Fig Rig was important as it can be used as a vise to fasten the nail to the camera. Mr McManus informed us that on a film set there would be around 6 people who's only role was to set camera equipment. By allocating roles such as having the job of assembling and dissembling the camera equipment saved time in the long run, we learnt that every moment which we spent filming was precious.

Planning Continuity Peice - Location

Location - Recce

We will set the continuity piece in three locations:

- The outside staircase so that we will be able to achieve a low angle shot and make the character seem powerful and also capture an exaggerated close up of his face. Another fact is to show the obstacle he has to face.

-The indoor staircase floor
so that we are able to get an overhead shot to show that the character is being watched and seems weaker

-The front entrance so we have a clear space for the action to take place and the confrontation to occur between all the characters

Planning Continuity Piece - Props

Props

We decided not to use props as we figured that there would already be alot going on with the action of the confrontaton and everythigng, we thought it wouldnt be essential to distract the audience further by introducing confusing props.

Planning Continuity Piece - Casting

Casting

Since the continuity is going to be an experimental piece to show how we use camera angles, we decided simply to cast ourselves as this  would allowe us to work around our own schedules without trying to figure out others and wasting essentail time. By doing so we would save time and this means we will produce the final product quicker.

Planning Continuity piece - Camera Shots

Camera Shots/ideas

We wanted to achieve a range of shots such as close up, low angle and extreme close up shots. We can achieve all this whilst using editing very effectively at the same time by capturing several different shots so that if needed we can use it but if not that we can cut it out and use another. This sequence will allow the piece to follow and smooth pattern.

Planning a Continuity peice - Storyboard

Storyboard

We decided that we didnt want to follow the constrictions of a normal continuity piece, we wanted to make it more adventurous. We came up with a story board of an action genre of a confrontation between three people. We thought that it would attrat the audience a little more and it allowed us to experiment using a range of different camera shots.
