It will then swtich to the view behind the character who is being interrogated, with the tape being pulled off his mouth. Props - Film opening (2 minute)

Props

These are the following props we decided to use, below is an outline of the props and who is responsible for bringing them.

Gasoline container (Milk bottle) - Deonisy
Red Tie - Tinashe
6 form suits - Everyone
Tape - Jovan
Disposable plastic Lighter - Deonisy

Optional : Fake blood - Deonisy

Props: Choice Of Lighters

When choosing between the lighters we had a total of three options:

 Zipolighter
This would have been the best option as it is typically linked to several american gangsta movies which is similar to the film we are trying to create. However, a practical implication is that it runs out of gas very quickly so it wastes a lot of time. Another issue is that we are trying to create a more urban image so they cannot have luxury lighters.

Matches
Working within a school environment did have some drawbacks and it definitely affected the type of lighter we used. Using a match was just too risky as the risk of dropping it and setting something alight was an issue that we could get over.

Disposable Lighter
This was the most practical of choices as it was the safest to use within school. It also had several creative uses in adapting our story. The fact that the genre is very urban the use of a disposable lighter to set someone on fire is the easiest and cheapest way to do it. Also it suggests the lack of care as no effort was made to make the victims death luxurious.

Script (Alternative)

Script -Alternative

Sence 1:
This scene starts with an interigation scene between the friends ( based in the gym/classroom or back of hall for spliage purposes as a prop will be used with seeps liquid like gasoline- for realism)

music will be played so there will be little to no dialogue here ( using editing we will the reverse backwords and set the actual scene so that the story makes much more sense) - the character mime shouting at the chracter they are punishing.

Scene 2:
The characters all walk in unison towards a a location in the playground ( here we see their relationship and are wondering what will happen as the audience are already aware that something obviously goes wrong

Scene 3:
whilst they are at their locaton one of the members by his "friend" get a text (close up shot) which says -"meet me in the ")

Scene 4:
The character then goes to the hall and is hit by a blunt object over the head and killed. it sets te story as to who actually killed him as his groups of friends will try and figure this out and get revenge for the rest of the film.

Film Inspirations

Our film opening is soley based on the  film Four Brothers with the popular attributes from the popular Goodfellas intro where they take a segment from the middle of the movie and placed it in the begining to draw the audience in. All films must have a begining middle and an end, placing the middle at the end creates excitement and a sense of mystery; we included a "gasoline interrogation" from the movie Four Brothers where someone is threatened by having gasoline dumped on them and possibly set on fire. The family bond stands out in this movie the "Trailer-Four Brothers" best shows this     connection.

Scene by Scene Plan

prior to shooting our short film intro we construsted a film plan and story breakdown we imagined as if we constructed a full media product and took scenes that we happened halfway through because it adds mystery and the action draws the audience in.

Story Break Down
Scene 1:
This is a brief introduction to the characters as they walk through the playground (DAVID, PHILIP, JOVAN)

Scene 2:
Through dialoge we show that they three adoptive brothers (JOVAN ,DAVID, PHILIP) that attend the same school. Having recently lost their brother in the school the characters have a short scene to bond, grieve and accept that their brother is dead.

Scene3:
There are three characters (JOVAN ,DAVID, PHILIP) asking a starteled DEONISY to tell them his connection to their bothers death. After his refusal to cooperate they douse him in gasoline (water) and threaten to set him on fire with their lighter. A friend of the the three brothers enters the room(TINASHE).

The interagtee slyly tries to indicate that their friend is the killer, he hastily tries to set (DEONISY) alight, allowing the brothers to realise that he killed their brother.

Scene 4:
This newly found knowlege results to the chasing of the killer through the halls and up/down the stairs of the school.

Location reconnaissance for film opening

David and i grabbed a camera in  two our free periods meanwhile Deonisy and Gracia  had lessons. While  looking at our draft we had to spitball some of what we believed to be good locations for the scenes to take place, coming up with a few plausible candidates we had to take notes of the pros and cons of each location.
 e.g.
Playground
Pro)

  • Provides a large surrounding to show an isolated character in the middle of
  • Great open space to get all of the major chracters in the shot

Con)

  • Frequently has children walking to and from lessons at random intervals
  • Natural lighting affects the quality of the image on the camera which is very difficult to correct through editing
  • Depending on the weather - affects when we can shoot as one day it might be raining and the next it could be sunny

Props- Film Opening

After we came up with the draft as to what we intend to happen in our film introduction, we thought about props we could use that would establish the type of characters used in the film and their motives in a particular scene. This is because props are used to connote and denote, sometimes indicating hidden meanings that are important to the plot of the film.

E.g. colours such as black may indicate a dark past. Red may indicate bloodshed and grey may indicate a mixture of being bad and good.
We decided to use props because we believe that it indicates big parts of the story line to the audience without the use of dialogue and other sounds.

Rough plan for short film Opening

Rough plan for short film Opening

we drafted up 2 rough ideas as to what our short film openings will contain. The film opening was supposed to convey the 2 following Genres:

Thriller/Revenge with a sense of a strong family bond.

Plot

We create to set the scene of a trio of adopted brothers within a school. There is a betrayal between the brothers and someone they trust having killed their oldest brother before the initial introduction of the film. The theme of the short film is revenge and mystery because, we know who killed him, but we dont know why.
While the movie revolves around a murder and the subsequent search for the reason, The film opening is actually as much a relationship piece as it is an action/Thriller piece. The story focuses on how they have formed a bond thicker than if they were brothers by birth. They fight, they smile, and they lean on each another to make it through tough times.
e elements we must include. We also included things that we must consider such as the camera shots and a quick outline of the script.

                                                                                                                                                   - Gracia

Target audience - Film opening

Target audience - Film opening

The audience we are aiming to attract with our film are males between the ages of 12-30; males being the majority, we felt no need to add anything to appeal to a female audience. By mainly attracting men to the film we can already establish a fan base and do the research to find out what attracts them to want to watch a film. however, we are not segregating women from wanting to watch the film we are just aiming it towards me.

Results of favourite genre: Questionnaire

we asked a total of 50 people what their favourite genre was. Comedy was the genre which took most of the votes, second was thriller and third was urban. As these were the top most voted genres we decided to encorporate two into the film we are going to make. We chose to make an urban-thriller. alothough comedy got the most votes we decided it would be better to use an intresting location for the urban thriller compared to comedy.

Final Product

Editing Continuity Piece

Due to the fact that I was not used tothe iMovie this video editing software, I decided to experiment with the effects and style, which would affect the theme and how the atmosphere was portrayed. In some parts, where I was running and the characters were introduced, I decided to speed them up and distort them so that a supernatural and action paced atmosphere was created. After making these changes to the clips, in order to add appropriate cinematic effect, I started to put on certain video effects. I then added the sound to the overlay.

The music used was an electronic style track called ''Out of your back'' which we found on a non copyright music website. This track was good for the video because it created a sense of action and adrenaline. I muted the video noise so that only the music could be heard. I mostly used the pan and zoom effect, and the normal zoom to make the scenes have some flavor and to make it have some sort of a resemblance to an opening for a action movie.
